The T.E. Challenge
By Ginger Novelle
Tom Perrine asked me to write fake job descriptions for four positions: cashier, janitor, food service worker, and office clerk. I had to interview a lot of people in the clubhouse to find out the details of those positions. At first, I was intimidated by the project, but once I started, I really got into it. It was fun learning how people do their jobs. These job descriptions will be used for the TE Challenge.
Bill Partridge-Great Harvest Bread Store
Interviewed by Jessica Pruitt
J.P. Where do you work?
B.P. Great Harvest Bread Store at 28th and Ingersoll.
J.P. What are your hours?
B.P. Tuesday-Friday 7:30-10:30
J.P. What do you do when you get off work?
B.P. Work on computer or do some drawing.
J.P. What do you do at the bakery?
B.P. Wrapping goodies like rolls and cookies, wash dishes and other miscellaneous cleaning.
J.P. How long have you been there?
B.P. I started in a TE position at the bakery. I did the TE for 6 to 8 months, and then moved into a part-time job. SO I’ve been at the bakery for a total of 3 ½ years.
J.P. How would you describe your TE experience?
B.P. The people at Great Harvest Bread are great and very fun. I was a little nervous when I first started because I didn’t know what to expect but the people were very accommodating.
J.P. How did you get your part-time job?
B.P. I just got up enough courage to ask for the part-time job and knew they would be optimistic with all of my time and experience.
J.P. How has it changed or effected your life?
B.P. I worked as a draftsman for 11 years before I became ill and it got too stressful. But once I got the TE job at Great Harvest, I found a new respect for work. I feel very much at home at the bakery and because of this my absences have decreased. I am excited to go to work. I feel accomplished, healthier, and happier.
Congratulations Bill! Keep up the good work.
